Recycling

If you find yourself with a promotional product that you no longer want or need consider the following: 1 - Recycle! Check with your local municipality to see which plastics/metals they take. 2 - Compost it! Corn plastics and (SAFE) plastics (anything with an additive) will biodegrade in a composting environment. 3 – Donate them! Many promotional products are useful items - jar openers, bag clips, or lunch totes to name a few. These items can be donated to your local thrift store or Goodwill. 4 - It's a tradition in my family that offering a couple of "free" items at a garage sale builds good Karma. So place a "free" sticker on the bottom of that coffee mug and see your good fortune improve. 5 – Glue old magnets to the back of student's/children's art projects for an added touch. 6 - If you ever feel you have too many pens and pencils don’t throw them away! Give them to your local elementary school. There is always a need for extra writing utensils. 7 – Contribute coffee mugs and tumblers to the break room at work. Your fellow employees will appreciate the extra drink ware. 8 - Ask local artists. Many artists work with reclaimed materials and would find a use for your leftovers. 9 – Give the item to a child. If an item is appropriate for a child, let a child have a new found treasure! An old rubber jar opener can provide hours of playing excitement for a 4 year old … a gift box can be a doll bed. 10 - Give feedback. Tell the company who gave you the item if you like it. We all need feedback to know if we are doing a good job. This helps to reduce the use of ineffective items. 11 - Still don't know what to do with something you have? Send us an email and we will do our best to help you!

Green Glossary
Bamboo

- the fastest growing plant in the world, bamboo is natural and sustainable. It is also naturally antibacterial and biodegradable. Additionally, it has been known to improve soil quality in eroded areas of land.

Biodegradable

- The ability to break down, safely and relatively quickly, by biological means into the raw materials of nature and disappear back into the environment. Biodegradable products break down through the action of naturally occurring microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi etc. over a period of time. These products are usually made from plant or animal sources. Examples of biodegradable materials include paper, vegtable scraps and some forms of plastics made from ingredients such as cornstarch or potato starch.

Compostable

- A product made of plant materials (Corn, soy, sugarcane, potatoes) that will break down over time in a landfill and leaves behind no unnatural byproducts or toxic materials. It must be able to break down into carbon dioxide, water and biomass at the same rate as paper. The finished compost can support plant life.

Corn Plastic

- Derived from corn and biodegradable. It eliminates the need for petroleum in plastic production. Its production releases fewer toxic substances than making petroleum plastic and uses less energy, creating an estimated two-thirds less greenhouse gas. Corn plastic can be composted, incinerated or recycled.
